Watch Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama hit wayward drive up stunned fan’s SHORTS before settling in his shirt at FedEx Cup

THIS is the bizarre moment Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama managed to lose his ball up a fan's SHIRT.

The Japanese golfer's errant drive on the tenth hole at The Northern Trust championship in New Jersey somehow managed to bounce off the cart path, up a spectator's SHORTS and then settle in his TOP.

The crestfallen patron then had to remain still while Matsuyama made his way up the fairway so the ball didn't become dislodged.

The golf fan was caught saying on a PGA Tour mic: "It went between my legs, hit my knee, and somehow rolled up into my shirt."

Speaking on the Golf Channel, British legend and commentator Nick Faldo said: “What in the world? What are the odds?”

And 2021 Augusta winner Matsuyama couldn't help but giggle either when he arrived at the scene.

Under the guidance of a rules official, the 29-year-old marked the spot with a tee by the fan's feet and took out a driver to measure his relief distance.

Only then was the poor man was then asked to wiggle in front of the TV cameras to dislodge the ball.

But it wasn't all bad, as Matsuyama - who was luckily given a free drop - signed the ball for him as a memento.

Matsuyama has birdied five holes in a row prior to the incident to fire himself into contention at seven under par in the first Fedex Cup event of the season.

However he could only manage a bogey after his escapades on hole ten.

And he was clearly thrown off his stride by the incident as a TRIPLE-BOGEY at the 18th meant he posted a -3 round of 68 to be -5 overall.

Matsuyama is seven shots back from US Open winner John Rahm, who sits top of the pile on -12, one shot ahead of Tony Finau in second.

Matsuyama became Japan’s first male Major champion in April, winning the 2021 Masters at Augusta in dramatic fashion.

On the back of that he was hotly tipped to win gold at his home Olympics in Tokyo earlier this summer, but lost out on a medal in heartbreaking fashion.

Matsuyama was part of a SEVEN man battle for bronze in a play-off that included Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy and Paul Casey, but it was CT Pan of Chinese Taipei who came out on top to claim bronze.

Xander Schauffele took home gold for the USA, with Slovakian Rory Sabbatini winning silver.
