DEADLINE DAY did not disappoint as clubs scrambled to get last minute deals over the line.

But Atleti fans were appeased by the arrival of former favourite Antoine Griezmann, who joins from Barcelona with an obligation to buy.
Luuk De Jong was his replacement at the Nou Camp, while PSG sensationally turned down a mammoth bid from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe.
Tottenham were busy, bringing in Emerson Royal while Odsonne Edouard is a Premier League player after completing his move from Celtic to Crystal Palace.

RON DECISION
With Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly heading to Manchester United rather than City, it's fair to say this Red Devils fans may be regretting this decision.
Although it does appear to be this season's shirt suggesting he's bought the top and got Ronaldo printed on it just to burn it.
Make of that what you will...
MASSIVE SIGNING
With Manchester United seemingly leading the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, this Red Devils account is pretty excited by the prospect...
Man City are said to have pulled out leaving the path clear for Ronnie to return to his old club.
HISTORY MAKER
Last season, Harry Kane racked up one of the biggest points totals in Dream Team history. After finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer and top assist-provider, the Spurs forward boasted a tally of 357 points.
Only eight players have achieved a greater season total in Dream Team’s long history. And right at the top of the list is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.
In 2007/08, the Portuguese superstar amassed a frankly obscene 477 points – nobody else has breached the 400-point mark.
You may remember that season as the time Ronaldo first ascended to best-in-the-world status as he plundered 31 goals in 34 league games, breaking the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League campaign at the time – a record that has since been taken by Mohamed Salah.
Mastering the role of the blistering inside forward from the right flank, the legendary No7 also scored three goals in the FA Cup and eight in a successful Champions League campaign for Man United, including a famous header in the final against Chelsea.
Ronaldo finished the season with 42 goals from 49 appearances, eight assists, and more Star Man awards than you could shake a Ballon d’Or at.
GUNNAR APOLOGISE?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Rio Ferdinand was ‘out of order’ for his criticism of Phil Jones.
Ferdinand said that Jones should leave the club as he has had too many injuries and is taking up a place in the squad that one of the youth team players could have.
Solskjaer said: "I think what Rio said was out of order, completely. I know more than anyone how it feels to be injured.
"Phil has had a horrible 18, 19, 20 months and was troubled for a year before that with injuries.
"Phil's still not 30, but since I came here he has battled against that knee injury and put his body on the line in every training session.
“He has never done anything but give everything for the club and Rio, he should no better than to go out and say this."
BREAKING
Cristiano Ronaldo has told his agent Jorge Mendes that he wants to return to Manchester United.
The report comes from Fabrizio Romano, who adds that United are preparing a two-year deal for the forward, which will be sent in the "next few hours".
Incredibly, he also claims Manchester City have never made CR7 an offer.
ED-DING OUT?
Rubin Kazan have made an €18m offer for Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard, according to Sky Sports.
The Russians are proposing to pay the fee in three installments of €10m, €4m and €4m over 12 months.
Bordeaux are also willing to pay €18m for the player.
PEP IS COY
Pep Guardiola did not give a direct answer on whether or not he wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo but he did not move out a rule wither.
CR7 looks destined to return to Manchester, with both City and United set to fight for his signature.
Asked about the possible signing, Guardiola said: "Ronaldo? Another striker?
"I cannot say much so Harry Kane announces continuing at his club so exceptional club like Tottenham and Cristiano was a Juventus player, I think he is a Juventus player and I cannot add anything else.
"Only I can say I think there is three or four days left anything can happen but in my personal view there are few players, CR is included and Messi, they decide where they are going to play.
"They lead in the negotiations and right now that is my feeling I am more delighted with the squad I have and we will say the same."
DEENEY UPDATE
Watford have just released a statement about Troy Deeney’s future at Vicarage Road, saying that discussions are taking place between both parties to find a solution:
"Troy Deeney and senior Watford FC officials are currently discussing the best options for both parties for the season ahead.
"The striker has one year left on his current Hornets’ deal, and has featured twice from the bench so far this year during this, his 12th season at Vicarage Road.
"Given the significant mutual respect between the club captain and the Board, these discussions shall remain private and confidential.
"Neither the Board nor Head Coach Xisco Muñoz will offer further comment on this matter until a final decision has been reached."
RON HIS WAY BACK?
Manchester United have been in direct contact with Jorge Mendes since yesterday night for Cristiano Ronaldo comeback, according to Fabrizio Romano.
United are now said to be "seriously interested" in the forward along with rivals City.
And the United hierarchy are now seeking to do a deal with Juventus, with a transfer fee to be agreed.
Personal terms will also need to be confirmed before a potential glorious return to Old Trafford.
BREAKING
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door for a Cristiano Ronaldo return to Manchester United.
The Norwegian sang the forward’s praises before hinting at a possible move.
He also revealed that Ronaldo’s international team-mate, Bruno Fernandes, has been in touch with the Juventus star.
Solskjaer said: "I didn’t think Cristiano was going to leave Juventus. But if ever he is going to move away from Juventus he knows we are here.
“We’ve always had a good communication, Bruno has been talking to him as well. He knows how we feel about him.
“He is a legend of this club, the greatest players of all time if you ask me. So let’s see what happens with him.”
'LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS'
Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the prospect of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to the Premier League.
And while he is excited to see CR7 in action, he is certain Manchester City are viewing the forward as a short-term option, given his age.
He said: "Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City? I watch that like a football supporter actually. Let’s see what happens.
"If other clubs can do things for this, it's not a business for the future - it is for now and immediately - some clubs work like that."
NOT FOR SALE
Everton manager Rafael Benitez has ruled out selling striker Richarlison during the transfer window despite links with PSG.
In his pre-Brighton press conference he said: "Obviously we have some players that clubs know are good players.
"This speculation is something you (the media) have to do, but us coaches have to focus on what we have, we have an important game against Brighton and we have to be ready.
"We are not considering selling him (Richarlison). He is our player he is really happy and hopefully this year he can score a lot of goals for us."
HAA TO GET HIM
Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Erling Haaland to replace Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.
The French side are believed to have contacted Haaland's agent Mino Raiola over the possibility of a move as they prepare for Mbappe's exit.
According to The Telegraph, PSG are considering making a last-minute swoop for the Borussia Dortmund striker in the coming days.
Rumours suggest a deal will be difficult at this late stage in the window and negotiations between PSG and Dortmund are yet to begin.
PSG are reportedly putting together a shortlist of potential replacements for Mbappe as Real continue their pursuit of the Frenchman.
Everton star Richarlison is thought to be one of those names on that list - and it now appears Haaland is another.
'LIFE GOES ON'
Cristiano Ronaldo has requested to leave Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed, amid interest from Manchester City.
Juventus coach Allegri addressed the media on Friday, shortly after the player waved goodbye to his team-mates.
The Italian insisted that he is not upset with Ronaldo, having already dropped him from his line-up for last weekend's opening game.
He stated: "Yesterday Cristiano told me that he has no intention of continuing at Juventus.
"This is why he will not be called up tomorrow, he did not train yesterday and now we can talk about Empoli. That is the most important thing. I am absolutely not disappointed."
ATA BOY
Atalanta are eyeing up Callum Hudson-Odoi as they're struggling to sign former Chelsea youth team player Jeremie Boga.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera have reported that the player who is getting little playing time at Chelsea could be the answer to Gian Piero Gasperini’s left-wing woes.
Chelsea have already conducted business with the club after Davide Zappacosta secured a permanent move in the Seria A at Atalanta.
'IT FEELS AMAZING'
Aleksandar Mitrovic has signed a new five-year deal at Fulham.
The 26-year-old striker has scored 56 goals in 135 games since arriving at Craven Cottage from Newcastle in 2018.
Mitrovic told the club’s official website: “It feels amazing. It’s been my home now for three or four years so I’m really happy to sign my contract for the next five years.
“I want to thank Tony Khan, and of course the owner and everyone at the club, for making me feel at home and showing how much they believe in me and how much they love me here, so I’m really happy.”
CREATING BUZZ
The Telegraph say Cristiano Ronaldo's possible signing is causing excitement in the City dressing room.
The report says that players have been discussing the potential arrival of Ronaldo, and are looking forward to the prospect.
The idea of having a natural central striker is said to have gone down well among players, who feel Ronaldo could open up more space for others to work the ball.
It's also claimed that players have been asking Joao Cancelo what Ronaldo is like in training.
STERLING MOVE?
Manchester City could offload Raheem Sterling to fund the move for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The England star was also linked with a possible move to Tottenham as part of a potential deal to bring Harry Kane to Eastlands.
Such an exchange deal with Juventus is unlikely given their desire for an out and out striker, but Sterling could potentially move elsewhere.
'BIG FUTURE'
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has tipped defender Liam Scales to be a big success at Parkhead after his transfer was confirmed today.
The 23-year-old will join Celtic after Shamrock Rovers missed out on a place in the Europa League group stage following defeat by Flora Tallinn on Thursday night.
Celtic say Scales will sign a four-year contract.
Postecoglu said: “Liam is a young player who has impressed us and is someone who we think has the potential to have a big future at Celtic.
"He is an athletic defender who has the ability to play in a number of positions.
“As I have said before, everyone at the club has been working hard to add depth and quality to our squad and in signing Liam I think again we have made good progress. We all look forward to welcoming Liam to Celtic and to start working with him.”
RONALDO FALLOUT
It is fair to say if Cristiano Ronaldo joins Manchester City there will be plenty of unhappy Red Devils.
After all, CR7 made his name during five years with Manchester United, and his arrival at Eastlands could give City the extra push they need to defend their league title.

AGENT POGBA
Paul Pogba is delighted that compatriot Raphael Varane joined the club this summer, and he revealed he played a part in the move.
Speaking to the BBC, Pogba said: "At the Euros I started seeing some stuff so I sent him (Varane) a message and said is it true?
"He said 'you never know' so I thought okay that's good news but let me know, keep me posted.
"I never thought that he would come but saw something about him being on the transfer list. I spoke to him about United, told him we had a strong team.
"On my holiday we spoke and I was pretty sure he would come so I was super happy because he's a top guy, top player also with the experience he has.
"He is a star, I was told him he had something, he can attract trophies so that will be great for us."
RON GONE
Cristiano Ronaldo has LEFT the Juventus training center and will not take part in training ahead of a potential move to Manchester City.
The 36-year-old has said his goodbyes to his Juve team-mates as he looks set to leave the club after just three years.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portugal ace said goodbye to his team-mates and left the club's training ground after just 40 minutes.
And Ronaldo is waiting for his agent Jorge Mendes to bring a concrete Man City bid forward because at the moment it is only a verbal agreement.
The forward has just one year left on his £500,000-a-week contract and Juventus want to get it off the wage bill.
The Turin-based club also want to acquire a £21.4million fee for the forward.
BYE WES
Aston Villa striker Wesley is having a medical this morning ahead of a season long loan to Club Brugge, report Sky Sports.
Villa signed Wesley from the Belgian club for an initial £22m in the summer of 2019.
The striker has scored six goals for the club but suffered an ACL injury at Burnley on New Year’s Day 2020 which took him over a year to come back from.
He’s made one substitute appearance so far this season against Newcastle.
It will be a straight loan, no option to buy. Wesley still has three years left on his contract.
CITY SWOOP
Brazilian talent Kayky will join Manchester City from Fluminense immediately and not in January as expected, reports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian club will retain a percentage of any future sale and add-ons.
The youngster is very excited by his move to Eastlands, and he spoke to Sportv about the transfer.
He said: "It’s a unique moment in my life. I’m living a moment that all boys my age dream of living.
" I try to separate the two things, because I have to have my head at Fluminense first, I have the whole season still, I cannot think about the future."
NO DEAL
Harry Kane turned down a new bumper contract offer from Tottenham earlier this month, according to reports.
According to The Athletic, Spurs tried to offer Kane a bumper new deal to put the summer spat to bed and stay at the club.
Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici met with Kane on August 9 - three days before his PCR test that allowed him back into full training - and offered him a significant pay-rise.
But at that point in time, the England captain was waiting for defending Premier League champions Manchester City to make their official move.
And the bumper contract was swiftly turned down.
