West Ham are mocked for reducing price of their ‘Prepare for a European tour’ T-shirts

Staff face a tough job in shifting the merchandise following the club's exit from the Europa League at the qualifying stage

IT'S not all bad news for West Ham United fans - the 'Prepare for a European tour' T-shirts at the club shop have been reduced.

In a rather awkward move, the club tempted fate by designing clothing showing an aeroplane emblazoned with 'Irons on tour', selling the items for the past few weeks.

But last night, any dreams of a trip to the Spanish seaside, or a jaunt around historic Prague were ended after a 1-0 home defeat, dumped out 2-1 on aggregate in the Europa League first play-off round.

And now the club have been forced to reduce the T-Shirts from £20 to £15, and they even form part of the 'two for £20' deal.

One thing is for sure - the staff in the club shop will have their work cut out trying to shift the merchandise.

Predictably, West Ham's preparation for a 'European tour' has been mocked on social media after it ended before it had barely begun.

Writing on Twitter, Steve B said: "So West Ham's big European tour was a day trip to Romania," while Aled Thomas writes that he's had "longer summer holidays than West Ham's European tour."

Eddie Brand rubbed more salt in the wounds when he added that "West Ham's usual European tour ends in September," and that with the bigger crowd, "you can hear the boos in Romford."

The Hammers were locked at 1-1 after the first leg in Romania, where Mark Noble's 45th-minute penalty had been cancelled late on by Denis Alibec's strike.

Last night they struggled to get out of first gear, especially in a drab first half where they fell behind just before half-time when Filipe Teixeira netted.

Things don't get much easier for the Hammers - they travel to take on Manchester City on Sunday, who have won both their opening Premier League games.
