The club are close to agreeing a deal for Brazilian sensation Gabriel Barbosa who won gold at Rio 2016 and has been courted by many of Europe's big clubs.

Barbosa's decision to team up with De Boer suggests there is a bigger picture as to what is happening at the club.

There seems to be underlying tone that Inter are on the way up again and the resurgence  is similar to the one in the early 90's that saw fellow Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp and Wim Jonk buck the trend of signing for AC Milan and joined Inter instead.

Together they won the Uefa Cup and with the new signings he has made De Boer will be confident he has a team to do well in this years Europa League and bring European glory back to the San Siro.

Of course the manager has a European champion in his ranks now with Mario after his national side's sensational win in France as Portugal won their first major piece of silverware in Euro 2016.

The midfielder will add a new dimension to the Inter Milan squad and the fans will be eager to their side to progress this season.

Erick Tho Inter Milan president said: ''Mario is a very important player, who we have followed for a long time and who would enforce an already competitive squad."
