Barcelona sign Ronaldinho again! But don’t get too excited, it’s only as a club ambassador
RONALDINHO has been signed again by Barcelona! But do not get too up in arms as it only for a non-playing role.
The Brazilian wizard, 36, is rejoining the club he helped return to its status at the top of the game between 2003 and 2008 to act as an official ambassador.
On Tuesday, Barca are opening a new US office in New York to try enhance their brand internationally – and who better than to bring in as the face of that in North America than the club legend who scored 94 goals in 207 games, winning three La Ligas and a Champions League?
Regarded as one of the best players of his generation, Ronaldinho also won the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2004 and 2005 and the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2005 too.
The 2002 World Cup winner might be 36 having finished his career in his homeland with Fluminense last year, but he still possess great marketing power to boast Barcelona‘s image and try to rival Real Madrid on the world commercial stage.
And if the famously buck-toothed Ron is as good an ambassador as he was with the ball at his feet, the Catalan giants will certainly be in safe hands across the pond.
