The Gabonese federation announced that the star striker, Axel Meye and Nice's Mario Lemina would also be sidelined from today's game at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

All three were diagnosed with coronavirus recently and medical examinations showed they are dealing with minor heart problems as a result of the virus.

The Confederation of African Football [CAF] revealed that they didn't want to take any risks.

The Gabonese Federation : "According to the CAF medical commission, the players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meye and Mario Lemina, just out of Covid, cannot take part in this match.

"The examinations would show cardiac lesions. CAF did not want to take any risks."

Aubameyang tested positive for Covid-19 on his arrival to the Copa Africa in Cameroon last week.

Despite the minor heart issues, the striker is said to be feeling fine and has still been training normally for the past two days.

The news of his Covid result came just days after the 32-year-old was spotted partying with team-mates in Dubai.

This comes after Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies stopped training with the Bundesliga champions due to a heart scare that occurred after he caught coronavirus.

Signs of mild myocarditis were discovered as Davies completed routine medical checks at Bayern's HQ after recovering from the virus.
