Southampton fans re-release Europa League song that will leave you cringing with laughter
The Red Stripez have re-released the "Southampton in Europa" ahead of the Saints hosting Sparta Prague on September 15
SOUTHAMPTON fans will be hoping their Europa League campaign is remembered more than just for the release of this song.
The Red Stripez have re-released what they call the 'only song celebrating Southampton Football Club's entry into the 2016 UEFA Europa League'.
While that may be the case, it is possibly one that once you've heard once, you won't forget.
Written and performed by James Knights and Mark Lawrence, who actually form part of different bands on the Hampshire circuit, the track is as cheesy as it could potentially be "catchy".
The pair actually released a similar ditty ahead of The Saints' Europa Cup 2015/16 campaign - which ended rather abruptly with a play-off round defeat to FC Midtjylland.
But far from be disheartened, the Red Stripez are back. And with all proceeds from the sales (it is available on Spotify and iTunes) going to charity, there may be some logic behind the purchase.
The beginning of the video whizzes around the city of Southampton, before coming to a stop outside St Mary's Stadium with the "We march on" logo for Europe merged in.
Knights and Lawrence then really give it some, as they are filmed outside and inside the stadium showing their enthusiasm for "Southampton in Europa".
Afetr featuring some of the catering also showing their supports, the lyrics kick in: "Fonte at the back, Shane Long in attack, Redmond up the wing, everybody sing, Liebherr takes us higher, Liebherr takes us higher, Liebherr takes us, Liebherr takes us... Southampton in Europa."
The lyrics continue in similar vein throughout, with seemingly much more enthusiasm given to the pair's dancing than the words.
Southampton Airport features, as do Saints fans. But perhaps one of the biggest names to feature in the video is Saints legend Matt Le Tissier, as well as ex-goalkeeper Paul Jones.
The video has recieved some positive feedback since it was shared on social media. Southampton Airport say they hope it "makes it to number one", while "Picture Southampton" writes on Twitter that it is a "catchy tune, cheesy and has a dad dancing around Southampton".
