Newcastle ‘ready to pay Diego Carlos £110k a week but are joined by second Premier League club in transfer battle’

NEWCASTLE are close to securing the signature of Brazillian defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla, but they now face competition from a rival Premier League club.

The Magpies have already had two bids rejected but according to Sky Sports they have made a fresh offer of £30million for the Sevilla man.

However, this number has been matched by another Premier League club that has not yet been named.

A Serie A club has also placed a bid for Carlos, but it is said to be worth less than what both English sides have put on the table.

The 28-year-old has reportedly asked to leave Sevilla amidst all the transfer speculation, and according to journalist Duncan Castles the Magpies have already agreed personal terms worth €7million per year.

Whilst Carlos is the primary target, Newcastle will not pay more than they believe the player is worth.

The club have been eyeing up a number of players following the £300million Saudi takeover.

They have also targeted Sven Botman but were unable to match Lille's asking price.

Eddie Howe has been seeking defensive reinforcements in a bid to keep his side in the Premier League.

The Magpies are facing a relegation battle after gaining only 12 points from 20 games so far this season, leaving them 19th in the table.

They have already made two signings in the January window with Kieran Tripper joining from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood making the switch from Burnley.
