Burton vs Bolton halted due to medical emergency in stands while supporter collapses outside non-League game
BURTON ALBION’S clash with Bolton Wanderers was halted after a medical emergency within the home crowd.
The Brewers were leading the Trotters 3-0 at half time before the scary moment occurred just moments after the restart.
Three minutes into the second period the match was halted as the medical teams from both clubs raced into action.
Burton tweeted: “The game has been stopped due to what appears to be a medical emergency in the home end of the crowd.
“Medical staff from both teams are straight in attendance.”
However, after a five-minute delay, the League One game was able to resume.
The Brewers’ Twitter account wrote on 53 minutes: “The game has now resumed.
“Well done to the medical teams from both clubs for running across the pitch to give emergency attention to the support in question.”
However, that was not the only medical emergency involving a support on Tuesday evening.
Non-League Welling United confirmed that a fan was taken to hospital after collapsing outside the ground.
They were playing Dulwich Hamlet in the National League South when the incident occured.
A tweet from the club read: “We can unfortunately confirm that a Welling United supporter collapsed outside the ground, however he was taken to hospital and is now stable.
“The club sends thoughts and prayers to the supporter and his family and friends.”
Newcastle’s clash against Aston Villa was temporarily halted following a medical emergency in the stands.
It's not the first time this season that there has been a medical emergency at St James' Park.
During October's 3-2 defeat against Tottenham, play was suspended in the first half after an elderly gentleman suffered a cardiac arrest in the stands.
A doctor sitting 30 rows away in the Gallowgate End rushed to his aid where he performed CPR before Newcastle club doctor Paul Catterson joined in the effort to resuscitate the supporter.
Dr Tom Pritchard was then given a standing ovation upon returning to his seat.
