Disgraced ex-Arsenal star Marc Overmars ordered to pay back £1m Ajax bonus after quitting over sexual harassment scandal
AJAX have revealed Marc Overmars must pay back his £1million bonus following his resignation over a sexual harassment scandal.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona star quit his role as Director of Football earlier this month after his history of sexual misconduct came to light.
Overmars handed in his resignation immediately after the allegations were made public.
Ajax apologised and set about providing support for the victims, and have now announced that Overmars must pay back his signing on fee.
Overmars owes more than £1m as he was not entitled to a redundancy package following his resignation.
The club wrote in : "The Supervisory Board emphasizes that there is no redundancy scheme and that the fully prepaid signing fee of £1million must be repaid.
"The transgressive behaviour is drastic for the women who have had to deal with it.
"Good aftercare is of great importance and this has been initiated.

"Ajax will take steps towards a safer sports and work climate and will be assisted in this by an external specialized agency.
"This agency has started an investigation and comes up with recommendations which are followed up with the help of expert third parties."
After leaving Ajax Overmars said he was "ashamed" of his actions and believed it was not right for him to continue in his role.
He said: "I am ashamed.
"Last week I was confronted with reports about my behaviour. And how this has come across to others.
"Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I was crossing the line with this, but that was made clear to me in recent days. I suddenly felt enormous pressure. I apologise.
"Certainly for someone in my position, this behaviour is unacceptable. I now see that too. But it is too late. I see no other option but to leave Ajax.
"This also has a major impact on my private situation. That is why I ask everyone to leave me and my family alone."
