Harry Kane ‘in a great place’ at Tottenham under Antonio Conte and sets sights on top-four finish this season

HARRY KANE is in a really good place under Antonio Conte.

And that will please Spurs fans who fear he could go this summer after  failing to secure a move to Manchester City last year.

But a week can be a long time at Tottenham, let alone 12 games until the end of the season.

The star striker says the test of where Spurs are at is where they finish — NOT just beating Everton 5-0.

Kane’s double in that Toffees thrashing on Monday put them three points behind fourth-placed rivals Arsenal — with the north London derby still to play.

It also took his overall Prem tally to 176 goals, one above Gunners hero Thierry Henry in the division’s all-time highest scorers chart.

Kane, who has 20 Spurs strikes this season in all competitions, said: “I’m in a great place. I’m 28 now, I feel like physically I’m in a really good place.

“I feel mentally, my game understanding and awareness on the pitch is at a  high level from just gaining experience over the years.

“There are 12 games left and still a lot of opportunities for points. It’s down to being more consistent.

“We have had some great games but we have also had some disappointing games as well.

“I guess we will see over the next 12 games where we are as a team and where we are as a squad. Where we finish in the league will be the ultimate test. We are looking for improvement in all areas. We are definitely not the finished article yet.

“It is important that we understand that and have the mindset for that —  otherwise in this league you can be punished. Antonio has definitely given me more strings to my bow.

“I’m always someone who tries to improve. When I’m 35, 36, I’ll still be trying to improve. That’s my mindset.

“But it’s nice to be scoring goals, winning games and helping the team. It’s about working hard, keeping my head down. There’s always stuff I can improve on, whether it’s finishing, hold-up play, passing. That’s what I’ll continue to do.

“But I feel like there’s more and more to come. And I’m excited for that.”

Spurs, in seventh, travel to fifth-placed Manchester United on Saturday. The Red Devils are just two points above Tottenham, who have two matches in hand.

Asked if Spurs were now back in the race for the top four, Kane said: “Yeah, I don’t think we can hide away from the fact.  We can’t keep saying ‘we’re learning, we’re improving’.

“We’re there, we’re in amongst it. All we’ve got to do is be more consistent. Games like Everton will definitely help.

“It was a great game all round, with and without the ball. A lot of stuff we’ve been working on with the manager worked well.

“We punished them and kept a clean sheet. It’s about feeling that pressure.

“If we want to move forward as a team, it’s about taking responsibility and we can’t hide away from it.”
