Liverpool star Thiago Alcântara fails in bid to boost security at mansion after string of break-ins

LIVERPOOL star Thiago Alcântara has failed in a bid to boost security at his mansion following a string of break-ins.

The midfielder, 30, wanted to erect a ring of steel around his £3.85million pad after a spate of raids on footballers’ homes in the area.

But his plans to build a wall topped with railings were blocked — and he was also denied permission for 6ft aluminium gates. 

Locals objected to the “military or industrial” design of the gates.

The Spain international made the failed bid after a string of burglaries near his mansion in Knutsford, Cheshire.

He bought the stunning property with his wife Júlia Vigas last year. The pair live there with their two young children.

But they have become increasingly concerned about the number of so-called Away Day Robberies — where crooks target the homes of Premier League footballers away at matches.

Irate locals helped scupper his plans to replace his wooden entrance gates. 

 South Knutsford Residents Group wrote: “Members object to the design of the forbidding gates proposed.

“The design is military or industrial in style and is out of keeping with the [area].”

Thiago’s planning agent had stated the star wanted “increased security” at his lavish home. 

The application added: “The owners also wish to update their existing driveway gates by changing them from worn wood to aluminium.

“The height would be increased to add extra privacy and security.”
