Incoming Man Utd boss ‘Ten Hag eyes Bergwijn raid on Tottenham as first transfer after failed Ajax swoop in January’

ERIK TEN HAG is eyeing Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn as his first Manchester United transfer should he take over, according to reports.

The talented Netherlands international has long been on Ten Hag's wishlist with a failed attempt to sign him for Ajax in January.

Bergwijn seems a perfect target with it understood he is looking to leave the London club after a difficult season in which he has suffered with a lack of game time.

Injuries have seen him on the sideline more often than not, but when he has played he has demonstrated his class.

In January he came off the bench to score a brace in stoppage time against Leicester to secure an amazing comeback win for his team.

But he has only started once since then with Dejan Kulusevski, a loan player from Juventus, being the preferred pick by Spurs coach Antonio Conte.

Man Utd have the budget to afford his £100,000-a-week salary which stunted Ten Hag's previous attempts to nab him in the last three transfer windows.

After the shock defeat to relegation-threatened Everton last week, there have been calls for many current first teamers to be axed, including forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
