GARY LINEKER has lashed out at Burnley's "s****y" decision to sack Sean Dyche with eight games left in the season.

Lineker sang Dyche's praises for the "brilliant job" he's done at Turf Moor over the past ten years that has seen him lead the Clarets to two Premier League promotions.

The Match of the Day presenter is not happy with the way the 50-year-old manager has been treated by the club, which also earned qualification to Europe in 2018 under his guidance.

Lineker : "Burnley have sacked Sean Dyche with 8 games left of the season.

"What a brilliant job he did for so many years. Feels like a really s****y thing to do."

Burnley are deep in in a relegation scrap, sitting four points from safety with just eight games to go.

They have lost five of their last six top-flight matches, including a 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Norwich last week.

Assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer have also departed from the club.

Announcing the decision to sack Dyche, who was the top-flight's longest-serving manager, Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

Burnley have made no announcements yet about who will take charge of the team for Sunday's trip to West Ham.
