POLE POSITION

Barcelona ‘will do everything to try and land Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich’ with striker’s future up in the air

LALIGA giants Barcelona "will do everything they can to sign Robert Lewandowski on a three-year contract this summer," according to reports.

The Poland international, 33, has been tracked by the Catalans for over a year, after talks of a new deal with the Bavarians stalled.

The former Borussia Dortmund hitman has been unable to come to an agreement, and is said to be assessing his options with his current deal set to expire in 2023.

Lewandowski's agent is said to be ready to sit down for more discussions on his client's future, however it's looking increasingly unlikely a resolution will be found.

Now, reports that Barça will offer the Pole what he wants - a three-year contract - as long as an agreement with Bayern Munich is found.

They claim the Barcelona hierarchy see Lewandowski as a leader among men, something they've missed since losing Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski currently sits second in the all-time Bundesliga top scorer list with 309 goal in 379 appearances.

The report stresses that nothing has been put in place to suggest a deal is close.

And Julian Nagelsmann's men have made it clear they have no intention of parting with their talisman - despite his contract running out at the end of next season.

Barcelona boss Xavi is said to have been aware of Lewandowski's situation since January after he was told that contract talks had gone cold.

However, ahead of Bayern’s shock Champions League exit at the hands of Villarreal, club chief Oliver Kahn insisted that Lewandowski would be going nowhere in the next transfer window.

And he also revealed that the forward has already started talks over a new contract.

Kahn told : “We have a contract with Robert. We've always said that we'd start talks.

“We started doing that a long time ago.”
