For the first he picked up the ball inside his own half and darted forward before firing a low shot into the bottom corner without breaking stride.

He was reminiscent of Emile Smith Rowe with his socks pulled down to his ankles and his direct style, though his magic lies in his left foot rather than right.

Dibley proved that later in the first half by again running through the middle before bending another shot past Toon goalkeeper Mark Gillispie from outside the penalty area.

His third goal was finished off in identical fashion from a similar position but he first had to shrug off two defenders to create space for his strike.

It was a brilliant first-half hat-trick from the youngster made even more remarkable by the fact it was only his second appearance for the under-23s.

Southampton have had a lot of success with their academy and will hope Dibley can follow in the footsteps of James Ward-Prowse, Luke Shaw, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The hat-trick has attracted a lot of attention on social media with fans impressed by the similarity of the goals.

One Twitter user wrote: "Dude's just banged in the same goal three times."
