But the Prem giants are not the only ones chasing the attacking midfielder as AC Milan, Bayern Munich and former club Paris Saint-Germain are also set to join the bidding war.

The France international has stood out this season with a whopping 31 goals and 20 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio recently stated a Premier League move is likelier for the 24-year-old.

However, Leipzig are not keen to sell Nkunku as they are planning to invest heavily in the summer to challenge Bayern for the Bundesliga title and push for Champions League success.

The German club is looking to build the team around the Frenchman, whose contract runs out in 2024, and even an offer of €100million (£84.4m) might not be enough.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is set to undertake a consultancy role in June and has a close relationship with the Red Bull team, is a big fan of Nkunku.

So much so that he was left dismayed when he heard from the Red Devils' scouting department that there were no eyes on the former PSG ace upon his arrival in November.

United are planning a major rebuild ahead of incoming manager Erik ten Hag's arrival.

City appear more focused on landing Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland, while Nkunku is reportedly unlikely to be convinced to join Newcastle.

Bayern may only move if Serge Gnabry leaves whereas PSG ’s interest depends on sporting director Leonardo's future at the club.

The Brazilian is reportedly not keen on re-signing a player for such a larger sum than what the Parisians sold for so recently.
