Speaking to L'Esportiu, Laporta : "Gavi's agent has the new contract proposal on the table for a long time but he has not accepted yet.

"We don't understand... I don't like the situation.

"I encourage them to accept it as soon as possible, because it also helps us plan."

The central midfielder's deal expires at the end of next season, but Liverpool could trigger the £41million release clause in his current contract, according to reports last month.

Barca see Gavi and fellow teenager Pedri as the future of their midfield and could allow another Man Utd target Frenkie de Jong to leave.

Laporta confirmed that offers for de Jong have been made with United and PSG believed to be the potential clubs in question.

Gavi has enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring twice and providing six assists in his 47 games.

His fantastic form has earned him six Spain caps as well as drawing comparisons to his manager Xavi and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta because of their similar styles of play.

Barca clearly want Gavi to stay but with his contract running down the club may have to cash in this summer.

With the financial difficulties that the La Liga giants face, they could be reluctant to lose a player of Gavi's quality on a free transfer.

Barca have replacements in mind as they have been linked with a move for Wolves star Ruben Neves.
