They are set to rival Leeds for Denmark international Kristensen, 24, who knows boss Jesse Marsch from a two-year stint with Salzburg.

But Brentford chief Thomas Frank hopes to use his Danish connections to entice the right-back who would cost around £10million.

Borussia Dortmund were also monitoring Kristensen - but their interest has cooled on the defender, whose deal runs until 2025.

The Bees are also itching to sign Christian Eriksen on a permanent contract, with talks opening up between the club and his camp.

The midfielder’s deadline-day arrival in January was a huge catalyst for the club's red-hot run after a winless run of nine, including eight losses.

They only lost two of 10 games which the ex-Spurs midfielder started in after his shock Euro 2020 cardiac arrest.

But Manchester United and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the Denmark star.

Brentford director Phil Giles said: "It's no secret that we'd love Christian to stay. We will continue to discuss that possibility with him."

Frank has already suggested that they will not be making widespread changes to the squad this summer after finishing in 13th, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

They will need a back-up to David Raya who was sidelined for a large chunk of the season with a knee injury.

Huesca loanee Alvaro Fernandez didn’t impress during his time as deputy and Jonas Lossl played three games on loan from FC Midtjylland - but the pair have since returned to their parent clubs.
