The Strongman gave himself serious burns from an ice pack

He explained: “I got ice burns on the way back from the 'worlds'. On the plane I fell asleep with ice packs, they contacted with my skin and I got very badly burned.

“The last week, it’s just been going to the doctor every day and getting them patched up.

“They are on the mend now, hopefully by the end of the week.

“The first few days I had them they looked very very bad now they are starting to heal very well. So I’m very, very thankful for that.”

Hulking Tom, 28, from Invergordon in Easter Ross, retained his title in the USA last week after a dramatic final day of events.

He  is the first strongman to win back-to-back WSM titles since Brian Shaw won his fourth title in 2016, and only the tenth competitor  to win multiple WSM titles.

His brother Luke, 37 finished seventh - but described his sibling as “a hero and a king amongst men”.

Meanwhile Tom has strengthened an international team of celebrities after he signed up to appear in next month’s Soccer Aid.
