Luis Suarez ‘on brink of River Plate free transfer’ after Liverpool legend leaves Atletico Madrid at end of contract
LUIS SUAREZ is closing in on a shock move to River Plate, according to reports.
The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker 35, will leave Atletico Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this month.
He joined Diego Simeone's side in 2020 for a cut-price fee of £5.5million.
During his time in the Spanish capital he scored 34 goals in 83 appearances across all competitions and also helped 'Los Colchoneros' to the La Liga title in 2021.
However, despite his form the club were not willing to extend his deal.
And as a result, he is now set to make a shock switch to the Argentine Primera Division.

According to , River Plate are expected to complete the signing of Suarez later this week when he gives official confirmation on his future.
River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo remains confident that the club will complete deals for both Suarez and Colombian striker Miguel Borja as soon as possible.
On Sunday, he said: "There are possibilities. I think one of the two will clearly happen. But before that we have to be focused on what we have today.
"If they are signed, it will be to enrich the squad and have another expectation.

"[Suarez] is an elite player, who is currently recovering from a knee injury. We made the attempt, he has the will, enthusiasm, it's good.
"If he hadn't shown enthusiasm, we wouldn't be here waiting. It will be a decision and when it is possible we will see if it is feasible.
"You don't have to lie to people or generate a lot of enthusiasm."
Suarez reportedly offered himself to various European clubs before being approached by River Plate.
He was willing to slash his wages in order to facilitate a move back to Barcelona, but officials at his former club are looking to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski instead.

Juventus was another potential destination, but the Serie A giants were not interested in the move.
The striker was also linked with a move to Atalanta and David Beckham's Inter Miami.
