‘I normally put butter on the sweetcorn’ – Aston Villa and Scotland star John McGinn meets a WOMBAT in Australia

JOHN McGINN has been spotted dishing out nutrition advice in Australia – to a wombat.

The Scotland favourite has headed out to Oz with his Aston Villa team-mates for the side’s pre-season training camp.

After a hard first day’s training under ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, the squad took some time to take in some of the sights and sounds of Brisbane, where they’re based.

Specifically, the Premier League stars headed for the zoo where they got up close and personal with the weird and wonderful array of creatures that call Australia home.

Goalkeeper Emi Martinez appeared particularly excited about the trip to the zoo as he documented it on his Instagram.

As you might expect, McGinn was in the thick of the action.

As you might also expect, his meeting with a wombat was as entertaining as you might expect.

Having already been filmed quizzing a sleeping kangaroo if it had been fighting, the Hampden hero can be seen watching on as a wombat munches its way through some vegetables.

The highly entertaining interaction begins with cheeky ‘stopper Martinez exclaiming through a burst of laughter “Ginny, we’ve found your brother!”

The 27-year old, who has previously revealed his favourite meal was simply “chips” during an amusing Villa social media video on ‘World Food Day’ back in 2019, responded: “Aye, aye. Nice and healthy.”

The conversation then turns to the contents of the wombat’s bowl, as McGinn warns the marsupial “Be careful with the sweetcorn!”

That’s not all, as the wombat is then offered a serving suggestion.

McGinn quips: “I normally put butter on the sweetcorn” as Martinez chuckles away.

Villa are in Australia to take part in the Queensland Champions Cup.

They’ll face fellow Premier League side Leeds on Sunday before facing hosts Brisbane Roar the following Wednesday.
