Tottenham complete £20m Djed Spence transfer from Middlesbrough as they seal SIXTH summer signing

TOTTENHAM have completed the signing of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough in a £20million deal.

The England U21 right wing-back has become Antonio Conte's sixth signing of the summer after penning a contract until 2027.

Spence said: “To play in the Premier League at a big club like Tottenham Hotspur it’s a dream come true.

“I’m just thankful that I’m going to get an opportunity to play for the club.

“Last year we won promotion at Nottingham Forest and it was a great season for me - the stuff of dreams really.

“I bring excitement, skill, speed - I just want to excite the fans.”

Spence underwent his medical with the Premier League side on Friday before pictures emerged of him wearing the club's colours online.

The ace will join up with Conte’s squad when they return from South Korea.

Spence was released by Fulham back in 2018 but was quickly snapped-up by Boro on a free.

He was then handed his opportunity in the first-team under Jonathan Woodgate and impressed enough to win the EFL Young Player of the Month in January 2020.

But he failed to convince Woodgate’s replacement Neil Warnock as the veteran sanctioned his departure on loan to Forest a year ago.

Spence made 39 appearances for Steve Cooper’s team to help them to play-off success and the Premier League.

His displays also earned him international honours with England U21s, where he has gone on to win three caps.

Spence has now become the sixth new arrival at Spurs this summer after the signings of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and loanee Clement Lenglet.
