Ronaldo touched down in a private jet from Madrid at 9:30pm last night in Manchester Airport before being taken to a hanger for a waiting car to whisk him home.

The wantaway superstar, 37, is now set for showdown talks with the Red Devils where he will tell them he will NOT accept their offer of a new deal.

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia due to "family reasons" as speculation mounted over his future.

He wants a permanent transfer so he can continue playing in the Champions League after United could only finish sixth last season.

He has NEVER played in the Europa League in his glittering career and has no intention to start now.

United have insisted over recent weeks that he is not for sale while Ten Hag has also maintained that the striker is a key part of his plans.

Now the two are set to hold talks face-to-face after Ronaldo returned to work at Carrington.

United are trying to convince Ronaldo, who re-signed for United from Juventus in August 2021 on a two-year deal with an option of a third, to stay put.

They are willing to accept a loan move for the upcoming season so he can play in Europe’s top club competition, with Atletico Madrid the latest club to be linked.

But, that would only be under the condition that he commits to another 12 months, meaning he would still be a player at the club at 39.

Ronaldo and Ten Hag spoke at the end of last season but have yet to communicate since the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed his desire to leave.

Contact between the two camps has been maintained by United chief executive Richard Arnold and Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes who has been hawking his client around Europe’s top clubs.

The Portugal forward has been offered to Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Atletico and Napoli but no deal has materialised as yet.

Ten Hag’s squad return to training on Tuesday after having Monday off following the long flight back from Perth, Australia at the weekend.

Ronaldo, who scored as United’s top scorer with 24 goals in all competitions last season, has been keeping himself fit in Lisbon.

United won three of their four games on tour with the only blip a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.
