Mukiele's signing is the latest disappointment for Chelsea, with reports over the weekend Barcelona had agreed a £51m deal with Sevilla for long-term target Jules Kounde.

Mukiele is a versatile defender, and can play both right-back and centre-back.

Speaking after putting pen to paper with the French giants, Mukiele said it was a "dream" to be heading back to Paris after a four-year spell with Leipzig.

The defender told : "Playing for your hometown team is obviously a dream.

"I grew up in the Paris region, in Montreuil to be more specific, so playing for Paris is a massive honour for me, for my friends and for my family, and I'm really happy to have worked so hard to be here today."

And Mukiele is "sure" he made the right choice to join PSG - despite having others from other clubs on the table.

When asked about interest from elsewhere, he said: "When I found out that Paris were interested in me and that they wanted me to come here, I obviously gave it some thought because it was really important.

"This is a huge step in my career. It's not a choice to be taken lightly, but I think and I'm sure that I made the right one."
