  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    27. Sterling does well to beat Patterson and looks to cross.

Mina comes across to put the ball out for a corner.

Chelsea have had their fair share of set pieces already without creating anything of note at all.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    25. First real chance of the game for the home side.

As the ball is whipped in, Tarkowski meets it and heads it towards goal with a great connection.

Mendy is forced to tip the ball over the bar.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    23. Sterling is being manhandled by the Everton defence whenever he gets the ball.

Fortunately, he tends to go down too easily for the referee to penalise their heavy-handed approach towards the England man.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    21. Tarkowski finds Gray out wide on the left.

He drops the shoulder and looks to whip a ball into the box.

It was inches over the head of the oncoming Gordon in front of goal.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    19. Holgate is in the thick of the action straight away, heading it behind for another corner.

Chelsea play the ball short to Sterling who is booed by the home fans as you would expect due to his links to local rivals Liverpool.

Pickford is forced into a save although it seems the ball was going wide.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    17. As Chelsea wait to take this corner, Godfrey is stretchered off.

That took seven minutes to clear up as he heads off to an ambulance.

Applause from all the fans for the stricken player.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    15. Ben Godfrey does not look in a good way.

He seems to have injured his ankle and knew it was bad straight away.

As the medical team treat him, he looks in some discomfort.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    13. Not the start Everton wanted, but on the positive the score is still goalless.

Ashley Cole gives some instructions from the sideline stood next to Lampard.

The way the treatment room is filling up, Ashley might get a game for The Toffees this season.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    11. Holgate looks set to come on to replace Godfrey.

Play was allowed to continue despite the ball having gone out for a corner.

Everton have paid for that on this occasion.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    9. Mykolenko is already having to keep a close eye on Reece James.

With Tuchel deploying wing backs it allows Chelsea more numbers on the attack.

Pickford is not ready for a wild backpass from Godfrey.

Trying to keep the ball in play, Pickford gifts it to Havertz.

Godfrey gets back and puts in a challenge but seems to have injured himself in the process.

The ball was already out before Pickford kicked it.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    7. Mina blocks off Sterling from progressing through on goal.

He will be a major factor for The Toffees this season and Lampard will be hoping he stays fit.

Chelsea are starting to dominate possession here.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    5. Commentators do love a good stat, in this instance how James Tarkowski has had the most blocks in the Premier League in the last two seasons.

Usually that just means you are playing for one of the worst teams as you are getting more opportunity to defend.

Chelsea have a free kick out wide with a chance to get the ball in the box.

Havertz has a free header in the box but heads straight at Pickford.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    3. It will be important to see Everton assert themselves as an attacking threat with their issues in that area.

With no recognised striker most were expecting a very blunt performance from The Toffees.

As the sun basks down, there does not look to be an empty seat in the house here.

  • Everton 0-0 Chelsea

    1. Everton win a free kick on the halfway line.

    Koulibaly penalised for the foul.

Gordon is looking busy down the right wing.

  • Kick-off: Everton vs Chelsea

We are underway here at Goodison Park.

The visitors get us started in front a vibrant crowd.

Lampard and Tuchel look on from the touchline.

  • Blue is the colour.....

    ........football is the game.

  • Investment in right areas key

While Everton celebrated their brush with relegation like 'The Great Escape' last season, fans will not want to make that a regular occurrence.

Having sold Richarlison and now being hit by a number of injuries, it seems the squad is short of depth in a number of areas.

Leaving Everton fans not feeling confident for the season ahead.

  • No time for sentiment for Frank

Lampard would love to get one over his old club today.

Victory would lead them nicely into matches against Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Leeds United before the end of the month.

One of only six clubs to never have been relegated from the Premier League, The Toffees will not want to flirt with relegation again as they did last year.

  • Everton to win: 11/2

    Draw: 3/1

    Chelsea to win: 11/20

  • Curse of the Goodison treatment room

Everton have a number of players out currently and it is questionable as to whether the physio department could put out a stronger side than Frank Lampard currently.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder will feel his squad needs some strengthening in numerous areas.

Up front being the main concern with many wondering where the goals will come from this season.
