Rousey had the armour submission locked in on her rival and she thought that the champ had tapped out, but the referee instead counted Rowdy’s shoulders on the mat.

Replays appeared to show that Morgan tapped out before Rousey's three count, which should have resulted in her regaining the title.

The ref stuck with his decision - which led to Rowdy firstly attacking Morgan as she celebrated retaining her title.

She then launched a vicious attack on the official.

A host of backstage staff raced to the ring to try and stop her, eventually saving the ref after some brutal punishment.

Now WWE have announced that they have taken action against the MMA legend.

A statement from them read: “Following her attack on referee Dan Engler at SummerSlam, Ronda Rousey has been fined an undisclosed amount and will be suspended.

“An irate Rousey attacked the official after her SmackDown Women’s Title Match, claiming he missed Liv Morgan tapping out to the Armbar while he counted the pinfall.

“Due to her suspension, Rousey will not appear on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown.”

Rousey’s first spell in WWE from 2018 was a dominant one as she captured the Raw Women’s Title.

But after losing that in controversial fashion to Becky Lynch she took a three-year break to have her first baby but returned to win the Royal Rumble in January.

Rousey then beat Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s belt and held it until she was shocked by Morgan just weeks ago at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
