But Neville has demanded his former team-mate break immediately his silence and reveal his gripes with the club before he leaves Old Trafford.

He tweeted: "Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth?

"Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead.

"He’s the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!"

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo wants out of Old Trafford following the Red Devils' failure to qualify for the Champions League last season.

United initially refused to sell the Portuguese superstar, insisting he'd see out the remainder of his deal at the Theatre of Dreams.

But Erik ten Hag has conceded his side would be better off without the forward, who plans to tell his side of the tumultuous story in the coming weeks.

He wrote on Instagram: “They know the truth when they interview in couple of weeks. The media is telling lies.

"I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 of them were right.

"Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip."

Ronaldo revealed the news of his imminent tell-all interview on Tuesday in response to a report that he'd offered himself to numerous clubs in Europe.

The former Real Madrid man added: "Ab guys passed there real quick. It's been a long time since I came."

Ronaldo is eager to leave United to continue playing Champions League football, although club chief Joel Glazer is keen to retain his services.

The forward believes he has two or three years left playing at the highest level and doesn't want to waste his time in the Europa League.

Ten Hag had initially planned for the club legend to be part of his squad this season but is not against the idea of him leaving before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

Ronaldo made an emotional return to Old Trafford last September, penning a two-year deal with the Red Devils.

The Portuguese was the shining light in an otherwise dismal season for United, who finished the campaign in sixth place.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions, in which he also provided three assists.

But he's yet to find the back of the net in United's first two matches of the new season, which have left them ROCK BOTTOM of the Premier League table.
