Tammy Abraham scores twice as England under 21’s beat Bosnia 5-0
Tammy Abraham made his first start for the England Under-21's as they beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 5-0 as Young Lions run riot
TAMMY ABRAHAM made his England Under-21s start on Tuesday and it did not take the huge frontman long to find the net.
The 6ft 3in striker needed just 18 minutes to get his name on the score sheet as the Young Lions breezed to a 5-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina.
He followed that up with a deliciously delicate chip over the keeper in the second half to seal his brace in the romp.
The giant Chelsea teenager has grabbed the headlines this season after firing 11 goals for Bristol City since joining the Championship side on loan in the summer.
He only turned 19 last week, but already he looks like he is destined for the top.
And he wrote another chapter to his storied start to the campaign at the Banks’s Stadium – an unlikely setting that remains dear to the youngster’s heart.
It was on this ground in March 2015 that the hitman grabbed his first-ever goals for his country when he notched twice for the U18s in a 6-1 rout of Switzerland.
Now he has another England memory from this corner of the Midlands to add to his scrapbook.
Take a glance at our special ‘Tam Cam’ below to find out more on how Abraham fared this afternoon:
9 mins – First real involvement for the frontman. He gets the ball out to the left and plays a one-two with Josh Onomah before powering into the box but a defender manages to thwart his run and clear the danger.
11 mins – Abraham receives the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the area, spins while holding off three defenders and plays the ball across the 18-yeard line but is unable to find one of his onrushing team-mates
18 mins – GOAL The big man gets off the mark for the Under-21s. Following John Swift’s strike moments before, Abraham reacts quickest to acrobatically knock home the rebound from around eight yards after the keeper had parried Josh Onomah’s fierce drive into his path to make it 2-0.
29 mins – Abraham is fed the ball down the left but his cross-field ball is blocked by the defence as he wins England a corner.
34 – Neat build up play down the left of the area sees Duncan Watmore feed Jack Grealish. The Aston Villa man cuts the ball back from the touchline towards Abraham, but his effort is blocked by the diving goalkeeper for a corner.
40 – It’s not only in the opposition box big Tam comes in useful. The Young Lions were struggling to clear their lines from a Bosnia corner, but as the ball was whipped back into the area, Abraham was on hand to thump the ball to safety up field.
43- The hotshot is at it again back in his own box, powering a corner clear with his head.
58 – First real moment of impact for Abraham in the second half, and once more he is back helping out his backline by clearing a corner at the near post.
60 – Unbelievable. The striker will be kicking himself that he did not add a second. Grealish shows a touch of magic to skip past the full back and drill the ball into Abraham at the front post, but he somehow manages to miss the target from just a few yards out.
61- Abraham gets the ball out to the left of the area with his back to goal, and after turning his man, he floats a cross towards the back post and the onrushing Onomah before the Spurs man’s strike is saved by the keeper.
64 – Brendan Galloway crossed the ball from the left and Abraham rises highest to power a header at goal, but he is denied by an acrobatic save from Kenan Piric. The big man is buzzing now and a second goal for him looks like it could arrive at any minute.
68 – GOAL And there it is. He latches onto a through ball from Duncan Watmore and deftly dinks it over the advancing keeper to grab his second.
73 – Abraham is replaced by Demarai Gray as the crowd give him a standing ovation for his efforts. A good afternoon’s work for the youngster.
