The breakthrough came after weeks of rebuttals by the Foxes who were adamant they were keeping hold of Fofana.

Chelsea were ready to throw in the towel on Fofana earlier this week when the Foxes rejected a third offer of £70m for the 21-year-old.

But the Blues received a glimmer of hope when it was reported that Leicester were considering selling their prized asset to fund a much-needed squad overhaul.

And now claims Thams Tuchel's resilience has paid off with Fofana poised to sign a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

The transfer will be wrapped up once all the documents have been signed by the parties involved, he added.

Fofana will undoubtedly be delighted with the news after pleading with the Foxes to let him leave the club.

The centre-back was left out of Leicester's squad last Saturday when they lost to Southampton.

He also missed a day of training last week, resulting in Rodgers banishing him to practice with the U23 squad.

And he'll have to wait to meet his Chelsea team-mates as Rodgers revealed Fofana won't be travelling with the squad to face the Blues in the Premier League this Saturday afternoon.

When he does finally make the switch to West London, Fofana will link up with fellow new Blues defenders Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella.
