Paul Scholes says Harry Maguire’s Man Utd axing is GOOD for captain but warns only injuries will see him win back spot
HARRY MAGUIRE is set for a long spell on Manchester United's bench - but the time out will do him good, according to Paul Scholes.
Maguire was axed, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, for United's win against Liverpool.
And the pair were omitted from Erik ten Hag's first team again as they beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
New United signing Lisandro Martinez has taken Maguire's spot at the heart of United's defence with Raphael Varane.
And Scholes can't see the Red Devils' captain getting his spot back as a sure starter - unless Martinez or Varane get injured.
But Scholes reckons Maguire can benefit from the time out if he comes back in off the back of United winning streak.

Scholes explained on BT Sport before United's clash with the Saints: "Well not unless Raphael Varane or one of the others gets injured, that’s the only way he gets back into this team.
"That is something he has to hope for. But it will do him good if the team goes on a winning streak.
"It will be tough for him because no player likes to be left out. But I think it’s the right thing and it will do him good in the long run.

"If United can get a six, seven [or] eight game run going when they’re winning games and he comes back into a confident team because he will still get a lot of games.
"Varane with his injury problems, the League Cup, the Europa League games - he won’t want to play in those but if United can get a run of form going, it will be easier to integrate him."
But Scholes' vision will only transpire if Maguire chooses to stick around.
Chelsea are said to be preparing a transfer deadline day bid for the England international.
However, the Blues may reconsider a swoop for Maguire as they edge closer to signing Wesley Fofana from Leicester City.
