The Saints have history of the horror scoreline after losing 9-0 against Leicester and Manchester United

Scott Parker's men were 5-0 down going into the break, and things went from bad to worse for the newly-promoted side in the second half.

The south coast outfit have now lost their last three top-flight matches to leave them in 16th spot.

Their rivals Saints know all too well about the horror scoreline having lost by nine-goal margins twice in recent years.

Leicester inflicted a 9-0 defeat on Southampton at St Mary's in October 2019 as Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez fired in hat-tricks.

And in February 2021, Manchester United then hit Ralph Hasenhuttl's men for nine at Old Trafford.

Shortly after Bournemouth were blown away in Merseyside, Southampton were quick to take to social media to revel in their misfortune.

Responding to the Cherries' full-time tweet, the Saints : "DM us if you need to talk, Bournemouth."

They also posted a of the iconic Spider-Man meme, with the Southampton and Bournemouth badges covering the Webslinger's faces.
