Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev in major doubt after Swede misses weight by huge SEVEN POUNDS as UFC consider replacements

UFC 279's main event is in MAJOR doubt after Khamzat Chimaev missed weight by seven-and-a-half pounds ahead of Saturday's meeting with legend Nate Diaz.

The Swede, 28, missed the welterweight limit, stepping on the scales at 178.5lbs.

Rival Diaz, 37, successfully made weight at 171lbs, ahead of what could possibly be his last fight in the UFC.

Diaz's contract with the MMA company is coming to an end and is "nowhere near" agreeing to new terms.

After he failed to make the weight limit, Chimaev took to Twitter to jokingly blame training partner Darren Till.

Chimaev shared a doctored photo of the pair alongside laughing emojis with the caption "it's his fault".

Diaz's training partner, Yancy Medeiros, had his say on the situation on social media, writing: "He didn’t miss weight. He didn’t want to make weight."

The status of the fight is currently unknown but reports suggest that co-main event star Tony Ferguson could face off against Diaz.

Dustin Poirier has seemingly thrown his hat into the ring to take the fight at late notice.

The Diamond shared a picture of himself on the scales, coming in at 176.7lbs.

When asked by a fan if he can make the 171 limit, Poirier responded saying "yes".

Poirier would head into Saturday's main event off the back of a loss to Charles Oliveira.

However, he recorded back-to-back wins over UFC icon Conor McGregor before that.
