In the meantime, thank you for joining us and goodnight.

  • Next up in Group H

After their 3-2 success this evening, Portugal can confirm their place in the knockout stages with a win over Uruguay on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ghana will be hoping to get off the mark when they face South Korea earlier in the day.

    • South Korea v Ghana (1pm)
    • Portugal v Uruguay (7pm)
  • Bruno brings the knockout touch

All the focus was on former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, but it was a current Old Trafford ace that delivered for Portugal against Ghana.

Bruno Fernandes stood up when needed, and laid goals on a plate for Joao Felix and Raphael Leao in the space of 150 seconds late on at Stadium 974.

  • Selecao strike the top

Portugal are the early leaders of Group H, and have a two-point advantage after the game between Uruguay and South Korea finished goalless earlier today.

  • Match stats from Stadium 974

Five goals from eight shots on target? I don't think any of us who had the misfortune to watch the first half were expecting that.

  • Full time thoughts from Doha

Our man at Stadium 974, Martin Lipton, is as stunned as the rest of us at not just the final 25 minutes, but the final seconds in which Diogo Costa almost gifted Ghana a point.

"That would have been the greatest “Shay Given” moment since…..Shay Given!

"Diogo Costa had NO idea Williams was behind him as he dropped the ball at his own feet to clear.

"Back in 1997, Dion Dublin picked Given’s pocket in almost identical style to score for Coventry.

"The cameras captured the utter shock developing on Ronaldo’s face as he watched in disbelief.

"And the Ghanaians were still furious at CR7 for the penalty after getting off their knees at the final whistle. Especially when, ludicrously, he was named man of the match."

  • Full time - Portugal 3-2 Ghana

A game absolutely dreadful for an hour burst into life in the final 25 minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo had netted a disputed penalty.

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana

90+10. What on earth is Diogo Costa doing?!

The Portugal goalkeeper is unaware that Inaki Williams is behind him, and then drops the ball to kick clear to safety.

Like a flash, the Bilbao forward darts in front of the stopper, but slips at the vital moment to deny himself a certain goal.

In a frantic finale, the Portuguese defence then scrap the ball to safety and that should be the end of it.

    Wow!

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana

90+9. Cristiano Ronaldo has entered management mode, and is now barking orders out from the touchline.

Fans of Euro 2016 will have seen that before.

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana

    90+8. Ghana still believe.

Bukari cuts back inside from the left wing and curls a cross over that turns into a shot.

Diogo Costa is momentarily worried, but then breathes a sigh of relief as it lands on the roof of his goal.

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana - Fernandes yellow card

90+4. Now Bruno Fernandes picks up a booking for a cynical foul that stops Ghana from breaking.

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana - Danilo and Williams yellow cards

90+1. Tempers are frayed out there now.

The players react to a late challenge in the middle of the park that takes some sorting out. Eventually referee Ismail Elfath books both Danilo and Inaki Williams.

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana

    90. There's still time for Ghana - nine minutes, in fact.

That's how much fourth official Stephanie Frappart has indicated on the touchline.

    Didn’t see that one coming.

Neither did Portugal, taking off Ronaldo in the belief it was done and dusted.

Ghana barely celebrated, either, rushing the ball back to the centre circle even as Bukari was leaping by the corner flag.

    They couldn’t, could they?

  • Portugal 3-2 Ghana

    89. Well, well, well...

Seconds after Cristiano Ronaldo is removed, and Ghana have a goal back.

Persistent work on the left from Baba Rahman offers room to deliver, and his cross loops up off a Portuguese defender.

A substitute for Mohammed Kudus ten minutes earlier, Osman Bukari arrives in the box late and powers a header beyond Diogo Costa.

How does he react? By mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark celebration.

On the bench, Portugal's captain is not happy.

  • Late hope!

  • Portugal 3-1 Ghana - Portugal substitutions

    88. Off goes Cristiano Ronaldo, and on comes a true legend of the modern game - Fulham's Joao Palhinha.

Also off are Bernardo Silva and Joao Felix with Goncarlo Ramos and Joao Mario on in their place.

  • Portugal 3-1 Ghana

    86. With the game won, Fernando Santos is going to make some late changes.

  • Portugal 3-1 Ghana

    84. Those quickfire Portugal goals have knocked the stuffing out of the Ghana players, and their vocal following.

It's a very flat atmosphere in which this game is ending. Even the trumpet sounds sad.

Maybe that band IS a bit quieter now. In fact, for the first time all night, they’ve stopped playing.

The worst game in history has sprung completely to life with three goals - no strike that, four goals - in 15 minutes.

Top finishing by both Joao Felix and, with looked like his first touch, just 45 seconds after after coming on, Rafael Leao.

Might be a few more as well, with Ghana having to take risks and loads of space in behind for Portugal to run into.

The locals appear to have suddenly adopted the Portuguese, too. True case of 'follow the leader'...

  • Portugal 3-1 Ghana

    82. Cristiano Ronaldo bursts through on goal and looks certain to make it four, but is denied first by Ati-Zigi's save, and then by the linesman's offside flag.

  • Portugal 3-1 Ghana

    80. Two goals in two minutes, and Portugal are going to claim all three points in their opening group game.

It's also a second assist for Bruno Fernandes in as many minutes, and one resulting in a first international goal for substitute Rafael Leao.

The Manchester United midfielder slips a lovely pass through on the left for the Milan youngster to run on to and cooly slot beyond Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

A lovely moment for a future superstar.

  • Game over!

  • Portugal 2-1 Ghana

    76. Joao Felix makes Ghana pay!

The Portugal midfield work the ball from left to right, and into the possession of Bruno Fernandes.

The Manchester United playmaker dissects the defence with a lovely pass inside Baba Rahman that has the Atletico Madrid man on the run.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi rushes off his line, but Joao Felix stays cool to lift over the goalkeeper and restore Portugal's lead.

  • Portugal regain the lead!

  • Portugal 1-1 Ghana - Ghana substitution

    76. Ghana's captain and substitute is off, and replaced by his own brother.

Jordan Ayew is one for Andre.

  • Portugal 1-1 Ghana

    75. Are we in store for a grandstand finish?

There are 15 minutes left for one of these teams to find a winner.
