Brazil 1-0 Switzerland – World Cup 2022 LIVE RESULT: Late Casemiro STRIKE hands Brazil victory over Swiss in Group G

BRAZIL came out 1-0 victors over Switzerland thanks to a late Casemiro strike.

  • That's all from Qatar!

Brazil beat Switzerland 1-0 at the 974 Stadium and punched their ticket to the 2022 World Cup’s Round of 16.

The Selecao thought they opened the scoring on 64 minutes when Casemiro’s brilliant through ball found Vinicius Junior down the left and the forward beat Yann Sommer with a fine finish.

But a VAR check found Tottenham star Richarlison was offside during the build-up and the goal was disallowed.

However, the Brazilians wouldn’t be denied and broke the deadlock after 83 minutes.

That is when Rodrygo played Casemiro inside the area and the Manchester United star fired a powerful shot from a difficult angle down the left to seal the three points.

  • Brazil's major milestone

Brazil's dramatic 1-0 victory over Switzerland marked a major milestone in the Selecao's World Cup history.

The Brazilians have become only the second nation to not face a single shot on target in their first two World Cup games in a single edition.

The only other nation to achieve that feat is France in 1998 when they went on to win the trophy.

No one else has managed that since 1966 when Opta started gathering stats

  • Casemiro performance vs Switzerland

Casemiro scored Brazil's late winner against Switzerland at the 974 Stadium.

The Manchester United star was also the one that delivered the assist to Vinicius Junior's disallowed goal.

As the graphs show below, the midfielder was crucial for the Selecao although he mostly played in the left.

  • Updated Group G

Brazil have moved to the top of Group G with six points and have punched their ticket to the 2022 World Cup's Last 16.

However, the Selecao haven't sealed first place as Switzerland are second with three points.

The Swiss, though, will have to wait until the final game of the group stage to find out their World Cup future.

Murat Yakin's men will face Serbia, who are targeting second place as well as Cameroon.

  • Word from the ground

Let's hear from SunSport's man on the field Phil Thomas after Brazil's dramatic winner over Switzerland:

Brazil spent four days insisting they had enough superstars to not to notice the absence of Neymar – but no-one thought that the hero would be Casemiro.

Yet that was exactly the case, when the midfielder best known for his defending than the dynamite in his boots produced an absolute rocket to send the favourites into the last 16.

Casemiro’s last goal for his country came in a qualifier against Ecuador nearly two years ago. He had five in 65 games going into this Group G clash.

But never will he hit a ball with more power and precision than the 83rd minute rocket which arrowed past Yann Sommer to snatch a win most had all but given up on.

Without their talisman Brazil had been laboured and quite frankly flat for long, long periods. Yes, they had the ball in the net from Vinicius junior, only to be denied by bad luck as much as bad judgment.

But by their magnificent standards they had been poor. Proof in fact, that while Tite tried to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes by saying they could cope without Neymar, the truth was far different
