Who May you be?

Manchester United steward refuses to let treble winner David May onto the pitch because he has no idea who he is

Steward had to call colleague before letting the former defender enter the pitch at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED'S security staff suffered embarrassment in last night's derby when they failed to recognise one of their own club heroes.

Treble-winner David May was refused entry to the pitch because a steward had no idea who he was.

May even showed a legitimate-looking ID but the security team member was still not convinced.

After 20 seconds of confusion the steward managed to get his colleague's attention and allow the former defender onto the pitch.

The hilarious video was posted on the Facebook page and showed fans getting pretty fed up with the steward's lack of knowledge of United's history.

One fan shouted: "It's David May, why are you asking [who he is]?

"The steward doesn't even know it's David May, it's a bit embarrassing," he said on the recording.

May joined United from Blackburn in 1994 and spent 9 years at Old Trafford, making 85 appearances.

He retired from football in 2006 and now owns a successful business importing wine, as well as being a regular presenter on MUTV.

In 2014 he was infamously sacked by the Red Devils' official channel for saying then-boss David Moyes was out of his depth, but he was reinstated 2 days later when Moyes was sacked.
