WOLVES are early favourites to swoop for Argentina left-back Marcos Acuna.

Sevilla are prepared to sell Acuna, 31, as soon as January and their former boss Julen Lopetegui is now in charge at Molineux.

But Wolves are likely to face competition from other clubs in the Premier League and La Liga for the rugged defender.

Acuna’s current deal at Sevilla runs until 2025.

The club’s new boss Jorge Sampaoli, a fellow Argentinian, rested Acuna and countryman Papu Gomez for the final game before the World Cup.

But director of football Monchi wants to reshape his squad and Acuna, rated at £12m, is among the players Sevilla are prepared to move on in order to generate funds.

Should Wolves land the defender, then he will have to compete with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Jonny for a spot in the side.

Lopetegui will know how to use Acuna best after spending two seasons with each other at the La Liga side.

Wolves are in need of a boost in the Premier League having struggled to get going before the break for the World Cup.

The Molineux-based side are rock-bottom of the table, having only won twice in their first 15 games.

Wolves have only picked up one point in their last five games and are four points away from getting out of the relegation zone.

They restart their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day with a fixture against fellow strugglers Everton.

But their first competitive game comes against Gillingham in the Carabao Cup round of 16.
