The on-pitch complaints backed up Ten Hag's assessment of United before he took over.

He says the Red Devils lacked mental toughness.

Ten Hag said in an interview with Voetbal International: "The mental toughness was very low.

"The fighting spirit wasn’t there. To get that in the dressing room, you need personalities.

Following the hammering by the Bees, United got their first league win of the season.

It came against rivals Liverpool, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford netting in the 2-1 win.

United have only lost twice since the two-straight defeats, and find themselves fifth in the Premier League.

They're one point off Tottenham and have a game in hand over Antonio Conte's men.

A 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier this week set the tone for the restart.

And United are back in action on Saturday against league strugglers Wolves.
