They've already brought in Jack Butland this window, but he's only arrived on loan to provide cover for De Gea.

And they're still looking for a potential replacement for the Spaniard.

Ahead of January, United were targeting a move for Sommer, who's entered the final year of his Borussia Monchengladbach contract, while they're also being linked with Brentford man David Raya.

Sommer would have been able to sign a pre-contract at Old Trafford this month.

His imminent departure will see him end a nine-year stay with Monchengladbach, which has seen him make more than 300 appearances.

The 33-year-old's final outing for the club looks to have been the German Cup defeat at Darmstadt 98 in October with an ankle problem keeping him out since - although he did play for Switzerland at the World Cup.
