The incident allegedly happened on July 17 2022, when  held a celebration for his 34th birthday.

The woman first made a formal complaint about McGregor to cops in Dublin after returning to Ireland.

Spanish police began investigating the alleged incident but the case was shelved as the victim did not make a full statement to cops on the island of Formentera.

But it has now re-opened in Spain at the request of the woman's lawyers.

A court in Ibiza is now set to question the woman after an investigating judge took a preliminary statement from her and possible witnesses.

McGregor himself may also be summoned for questioning.

A spokesman for the investigating magistrate said: “I can confirm a court in Ibiza is investigating an Irish national for an alleged crime of wounding.”

At the time the allegations were first reported, the woman was described at the time as being in her twenties but Periodico de Ibiza has now described her as 42.

After the alleged incident the woman said she was brought to the shore on a speedboat and immediately contacted the local authorities.

The woman explained she did not make a full statement at the time as she was in a state of shock, was wearing only a bikini during questioning and she just wanted to go home.

She added she was left frustrated because the Spanish police could speak “no English”.

The woman was questioned by the Civil Guard but didn't make a full statement and later started her trip back to Dublin.

The Civil Guard took her to the ferry to return to Ibiza, where she contacted a friend of hers who accompanied her on the trip.

During his birthday celebrations, McGregor treated guests to cocktails made using his Proper 12 whiskey, while a huge cake with his name on it was also displayed.

His two yachts, a £2.7 million Lamborghini Tecnomar 63 and £3 million triple-deck 150-ft Prestige 750 which boasts an inflatable water slide and a climbing wall, hosted the parties.

The woman who made the allegations is described in local media as someone who knew McGregor before he was famous because they grew up in the same neighbourhood.

She is understood to have received an invite to party on board his yacht after meeting him at a beach club earlier the same night where she had gone with a Hungarian couple.

According to the latest reports the unnamed couple may also now be questioned about the alleged incident.

McGregor's spokesperson Karen Kessler said: "Over 6 months ago an incident was alleged and after a police review, the matter was not pursued.
