Wales 10-20 England – Six Nations LIVE RESULT: Lawrence crosses line as England pick up crucial win – reaction

ENGLAND have beaten Wales 20-10 in Cardiff to pick up a vital Six Nations win.

Anthony Watson, Kyle Sinckler and Ollie Lawrence all scored tries in what was a tense contest.

Louis Rees-Zammit had given Wales a brief lead in the second-half before the visitors fought back in style.

The fixture was in doubt this week as Wales' players had threatened to pull off a strike over pay, board representation and their controversial 60-cap rule before the compromise was reached.

  • Time to reflect

There is a break now that will see yet more introspection pending for Wales before their next game against Italy.

It is one that is very winnable for Warren Gatland's men, as they gave a good account of themselves in Cardiff today.

As for England, they face France next, in what will surely be a tougher game than it was today.

Thank you as always for reading and sticking with us, we hope to see you again soon!

  • Borthwick's record turns positive

You always want a positive record as England manager, and on the face of things, two wins and one loss is not a bad start for the new boss.

Things are certainly going to get more tricky, as the team is yet to face off against France or Ireland in this rendition of the Six Nations.

A win against either of those would really put the coach in good stead, and despite Rome not being built in a day, it is clear to see a path forward for the England rugby team after today.

A tough place to come, but they got the job done, and should get credit for that.

  • Owen Farrell not on form

An exceptional player, without doubt, and a notoriously good kicker, but it wasn't his finest showing tonight.

His kicking conversion rate was not as good as it usually is, missing four and only converting one - a 20% turnout.

No doubt he will be back on form soon and it was just an off day in what was an otherwise brilliant day for the England captain.

  • Man of the match

Man of the match this evening went to Freddie Steward, and it is hard to disagree.

He was imperious in the air tonight, hardly ever missing the ball.

He is one of the best in the world underneath the high ball.

There were a few top performers out there for England, but it is the 22-year-old who takes the award for Man of the match.

  • Chariots swinging low again

It was far from a comfortable win for England, who looked challenged particularly in the middle portion of the game.

They won it with the momentum and numbers in the end, and had some great performances, particularly from Anthony Watson and 22-year-old Freddie Steward.

That victory puts England level on points with Scotland, and leaves Wales still on zero.

Plenty to work on for England, but they got the win in a must win game.

    Job done.

  • FT. Wales 10-20 England

The clock turns red, and then the whistle goes.

It is a huge win for Borthwick's England men!

They get the win in Cardiff, and it is two in a row now for the winning side.

  • 80. Wales 10-20 England

Scrum for England at the death.

They move the ball wide, as Henry Arundell comes on.

  • 76. Wales 10-20 England

Owen Farrell kicks wide once again, but you would imagine a 10 point lead would be enough for England.

  • 74. Wales 10-20 England

That might just be game over, and it is a great try for England by Ollie Lawrence.

Poor game management from Wales in the last five minutes or so.

  • 72. Wales 10-15 England

England are closing in on another try here, and it looks like they might finally get the daylight they are looking for.

But, Wales are still in it as they are awarded a penalty to ease the pressure.

  • 70. Wales 10-15 England

A loose pass from Wales and England look like they are away, but a desperate tackle from Tompkins saves the day for Wales.

  • 70. Wales 10-15 England

Alex Dombrandt is off, and taking his place is Courtney Lawes.

Bradley Roberts on for Ken Owens for Wales.

Wales are making inroads, but the England defence are standing firm for now.

  • 68. Wales 10-15 England

Still a slender lead for England with just over ten minutes remaining.

It is still close, and still tense.

Just one try for Wales and they could take the win!

  • 66. Wales 10-15 England

Sinckler off for Cole for England, and there is a warm applause for the England veteran.

There was an opportunity for England to move the ball forward there, but they kick it long instead, perhaps a poor decision.

  • 64. Wales 10-15 England

Wales almost immediately win a penalty of their own, with Alun-Wyn Jones doing what he does best.

Biggar makes no mistake with his boot - finding touch inside England's 22.

  • 62. Wales 10-15 England

Owen Farrell kicks another one wide, and that is three he has missed in this game now.

It's not been his finest game in an England shirt.

  • 61. Wales 10-15 England

Ben Curray comes on for Jack Willis.

He is the less celebrated of the twins, but a talent regardless.

  • 60. Wales 10-15 England

England get a scrum, and drive forward following it, they are keeping possession at the moment.

You feel England need to score again to really be confident in this one.

  • 56. Wales 10-15 England

England coming forward again, but Wales do really well to turn it over.

This is becoming a real dogfight.

  • 54. Wales 10-15 England

    Two changes for Wales...

Owen Williams is swapped out for Dan Biggar.

Adams for Tompkins, who has gone to outside-centre and Grady into the wing position.

Ellis Genge is replaced by Mako Vunipola for England.

  • 52. Wales 10-15 England

8 penalties conceded by Wales, and just 4 for England in comparison.

The England fans' voices raise the volume in the Principality, but it ends as a free-kick for Wales for early engagement.

  • 48. Wales 10-15 England

It's a beautiful spin by Anthony Watson, great feet.

Let down by a forward pass unfortunately, and it will be a Wales scrum.

  • 46. Wales 10-15 England

The conversion goes through with Owen Farrell!

  • 45. Wales 10-13 England

England look to hit back immediately with Ellis Genge, and the forwards pick and go and pick and go.

Sinclair spins his way through eventually, and gets it down!

Try for England, and they have the lead again!

  • 43. Wales 10-8 England

Wales then kick a conversion via Halfpenny, and they have the lead at The Principality Stadium!
