Everton given permission to speak to highly-rated Norweigan whizzkid Rafik Zekhnini

EVERTON are closing in on the signing of Norweigan whizzkid Rafik Zekhnini, according to reports in his homeland.

The 18-year-old forward has been in excellent form this season for his side Odd in the Tippeligaen - as well as being a Norway U21 international despite his young age.

He has bagged five goals in 20 games this campaign for the club he came through the ranks of, and according to Scandinavian news outlet , he is now in England to have talks with Everton about a move.

The Toffees have scouted him for a while, and questions arose when he failed to attend a recent club event.

Odd CEO Einar Håndlykken told the press: "Rafik is not here today because he has been given permission to travel and meet a club that have shown interest in him.

"I will not comment on this other than that it is a European top club.

"We have received bids on him, but can not say anything about which club this is."

A regular for the Norway youth sides, Zekhnini has over 20 appearances from Under-15 to Under-21 levels for his country - and the pacey player has commented on the move.

He said: "I have been allowed to talk to other clubs, and both I and my family are very happy with how Odd has handled this. Things happen fast in football.”

Zekhninis agent Jim Solbakken promised that Odd will be suitably compensated with the transfer fee being paid.

Everton are currently seventh in the Premier League under Ronald Koeman, and are benefiting from new investment from wealthy owner Farhad Moshiri.
