My Arsenal fan uncle was buried in a Chelsea kit after huge mix-up – it can’t be changed now
AN Arsenal fan was buried wearing the shirt of rivals Chelsea after a cock-up by his ex.
David Hickey’s loved ones wanted to send him off in a Gunners top following his death aged 66.
But his ex-girlfriend instead handed undertakers an old Chelsea away top given to David as a joke, which looked similar and even had the same sponsor.
The family joked yesterday: “He’ll be turning in his grave.”
His niece Linda Daly said: “It was an honest mistake by David’s former girlfriend, who looked after him so brilliantly up until the end.
“She is not a football fan so didn’t pay much attention.

“Among David’s collection was an erroneous Chelsea top, which we think was bought by a mischievous pal.
“The kit had ‘Emirates’ across the front.
“Arsenal are still sponsored by Emirates, and play at the Emirates, so she didn’t think anything of it.”
David, a lifelong fan of the table-toppers, died on Saturday after a nine-month battle with blood cancer.

The kit clanger was soon spotted by mourners who saw the funny side at the former landscape gardener’s funeral in Dublin on Tuesday.
Uncle and fellow Arsenal nut Brian Brenna said: “My son supports Chelsea and perked up.
“I whispered to David, ‘Don’t worry pal, Arsenal are going to win the Premier League’.
“We threw another of his tops in the coffin, and draped the latest home kit across the top of it.”
