Armistice Day: David Beckham, Gareth Bale and England football team lead commemorations
Justin Rose and Jimmy Anderson among other sport stars to pay tribute to the fallen
THE England football team, Gareth Bale and Olympic champion Justin Rose led commemorations for Armistice Day.
Gareth Southgate's men, who will wear black armbands in tonight's World Cup qualifier against Scotland, observed a two-minute silence earlier today.
Welshman Bale and national boss Chris Coleman held a photo in memory of Dragons keeper Leigh Roose, who died in World War I.
Other names from the world of sport to show their thought were with those who lost their lives in conflict included Jack Wilshere, Harry Kane and former US Open winner Rose.
The golfer posted a photo of Flanders field with the message: "Lest we forget."
Wilshere, who recently admitted he may be forced to leave Arsenal, tweeted a photo with the caption: "Remembering the ones that fought for our freedom today."
Spurs and England forward Harry Kane wrote: "Remember them."
Scotland rugby captain Greig Laidlaw laid a wreath at the War Memorial at Murrayfield Stadium to mark the occasion.
