Ex-Man Utd coach Chris Armas axed from Leeds backroom staff as Javi Gracia gives cryptic statement

FORMER Manchester United coach Chris Armas has been axed by Leeds – having only joined them in January.

The American, 50, was Ralf Rangnick’s No2 at Old Trafford last season, earning the nickname “Ted Lasso” from players.

And he sealed a stunning Premier League return when Jesse Marsch brought him to Leeds six weeks ago

However, Armas was barely in the door when his fellow Statesider was fired.

He then got the chance to take charge of Leeds for their 2-2 draw at United.

But Armas’ future was thrown into doubt when Javi Gracia was named the new boss at Elland Road.

And speaking ahead of Leeds’ next game against Brighton, the Spaniard confirmed Armas was no longer part of the backroom setup.

Gracia confirmed: “He’s not part of my staff. He’s not here. It’s something the club can maybe explain better.”

Armas was a former midfielder and made his name playing for LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire.

He won 66 caps for the USA before ending his playing career in 2007.

And Armas then returned to Chicago as assistant manager.

His first role as a manager came in 2018 with New York Red Bulls.

And in 2021 Armas had a brief spell in charge of Toronto before linking up with Rangnick at Old Trafford.
