PINT TO PROVE

‘World’s most expensive Guinness’ goes on sale at Cheltenham Festival for £20 a PINT… but it comes with a twist

CHELTENHAM festival is in full swing but punters got a surprise on day one as a pint of Guinness was priced at £20.

It is believed 220,000 pints of the Irish stout will be drunk over the course of the four-day event.

And horse racing fanatics have an opportunity to try a limited edition version of the beer, courtesy of bookmakers Fitzdares.

They have brewed a special 50-50 Guinness which is half stout, half English sparkling wine.

And it will cost an eye-watering £20, making it the world's most expensive Guinness.

The Club Black Velvet was produced as a tongue-in-cheek rib at punters complaining the price of Guinness at Cheltenham was too high, claims Fitzdares CEO William Woodham.

He said: "Every year there is more and more controversy around the cost of Guinness at the Cheltenham Festival and frankly we were bored of it.

"So, to gently rib the complainers and celebrate recent political manoeuvres we have created the world's most expensive - and finest - pint of the black stuff with a mix of premium English sparkling wine and Guinness brewed in Dublin.

"Isn't it the perfect way to celebrate free trade between our two great nations and the Windsor protocol?

"The Irish visitors to Cheltenham can afford it with their strong currency. Yours for £20."
