TOTTENHAM'S decision to reimburse fans for their 6-1 hammering at Newcastle on Sunday has thrown into focus the price supporters pay for their side's dismal displays.

And while the fans that travelled up from London will have welcomed the financial compensation for the performance, the gesture will leave other Premier League supporters wondering why they have not received a similar offer.

According to , Southampton owe their fans the most money for their 20 Premier League defeats this season - nearly £32.8million in total.

At nearly £50 per ticket per game, the Saints have racked up more than £12m from the 10 matches they have lost at St Mary's.

And a startling £20m has been spent by Southampton fans on the 10 away trips that have resulted in defeats.

The South Coast side are pipping Leicester to the post when it comes to the Premier League club that owe their fans the most compensation for defeats.

The Foxes have also suffered 20 losses this season, with just shy of £32m spent by their disappointed following.

They are followed by West Ham - who have lost five fewer games but have a much bigger stadium and charge more per ticket.

Then come Everton, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Wolves and Crystal Palace - all of whom would owe their fans in excess of £20m for league losses.

And Chelsea round off the top 10 following a dreadful 12 defeats this season.

The Blues charge nearly £55 per ticket - which adds up to £18m spent by fans watching their team get beaten.

At the other end of the compensation table, Newcastle owe their fans the least amount of money.

With just four league defeats all season, Eddie Howe's side would need to pay out a little over £5m if they were to compensate fans for every defeat.

They are followed by Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, with Brentford rounding out the top five.
