Adebayo Akinfenwa claims he was racially abused while playing for Wycombe at Cambridge United

Iconic striker tweeted his disgust after the match and the U's have vowed to investigate the allegation

CAMBRIDGE UNITED have vowed to investigate allegations made by Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa of racial abuse by its fans in their League 2 clash yesterday.

After the game, the iconic Chairboys striker, nicknamed The Beast tweeted: “Good 3pts today, great support again.

"It's a shame that a small group of Cambridge fans focus on colour rather than on the game #KickOutRacism".

United responded on their official Twitter account by saying the club was yet to have heard about Akinfenwa's regarding racist abuse from a small number of home supporters.

But they asked Wycombe and Akinfenwa to contact the club so the matter could be looked into.

They tweeted: “We’ve yet to hear about this alleged incident.

"Please can you or @wwfcofficial contact us immediately with any details so we can investigate."

A Wycombe spokesman told SunSport: "It was an isolated incident so we'll deal with it privately with Cambridge to identify the offenders."

 

 

 

Akinfenwa played the full 90 minutes as Gareth Ainsworth's Wycombe won with the last kick of the game to give Wycombe a long-awaited away win, their first since 9 February.

Aaron Pierre slammed home in the dying embers at the Abbey Stadium to see them move up to 10th in the table.
