The victory, which came courtesy of Mo Salah's 39th minute penalty, was their fifth on the bounce - having put together some momentum in April.

They hadn't kept a clean sheet in any of the previous four victories, however, conceding seven goals despite their wins.

Klopp's men last kept a clean sheet on April 4, when they drew 0-0 at Chelsea, managed by caretaker boss Bruno at the time.

And the feat appeared to make Alisson emotional after the game.

Klopp told Premier League Productions: "Alisson was close to crying with a clean sheet.

"It’s pretty rare for us this season. It’s very nice, especially for him."

The Brazilian twice had to be alert to deny his compatriot Carlos Vinicius.

Alisson has kept 12 clean sheets in 34 Premier League appearances this term.

This number represents a significant drop off from last season, when he kept 20 clean sheets in 36 Prem outings.

Liverpool's win saw them climb to within four points of Manchester United in fourth.

But the Red Devils possessing two games in hand likely gives the Reds too much to do to claw their way into the Champions League for next season.

On his side's late season form, Klopp revealed: "That’s what I said, we have to try to do something we can use.

"Something we can build on in the next season. That’s exactly what we did and I’m pleased with that."
