THE world's greatest Flat race, the Epsom Derby, is roaring back into action TODAY.

Jockeys, trainers and owners will all be dreaming of the £850,000 first prize and a chance to enter the sport's folklore.

Richard Kingscote and Desert Crown roar to success last year

It's a race that has ripple effects for years to come, with Derby winner's almost guaranteed to have a lucrative career at stud - just look at Sea The Stars and Frankel.

Last year's race was won by Desert Crown, who romped to victory on just his third career start for Sir Michael Stoute.

He was a 5-2 winning favourite, but shocks are not rare, with Serpentine in 2020 (25-1) and Wings Of Eagles in 2017 (40-1) both causing massive surprise for Aidan O'Brien in recent years.

When is the 2023 Epsom Derby and why is it earlier this year?

This year's Derby is on Saturday, June 3, with the race starting at 1:30pm.
This is a big change from the usual 4:30pm slot and it will be the earliest start time in the race's history.
That's because of the clash with the FA Cup final, which is taking place on the same day.

What channel is the 2023 Epsom Derby on and can it be live-streamed FREE?

This year's Epsom Derby will be shown on Racing TV and the ITV main channel.
You can stream the race for free by downloading the ITVX to your phone or tablet.
ITV1 will host the main race as part of their coverage from 12.30 until 2.05pm.
The action will run concurrently on ITV4 but continue there after the 2.05pm cut off on the main channel.
